Follow recent Microsoft Japanese Style Guide, especially Katakana prolonged sound mark. As of 2008, they followed the June 1991 Cabinet Notification on Loanword Orthography. It states prolonged the sound mark should be used for long vowels when English original terms have final -er, -or, -ar, in general.
